Eligibility

To ensure the BoardReady Collective serves leaders who will benefit most from the program, applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Executive-level experience — VP or above, GM, Founder/CEO, Partner, or equivalent scope of responsibility

  • Governance exposure — such as presenting to a board, supporting board processes, or serving in an advisory capacity

  • Clear commitment to pursuing corporate board service

  • Geographic fit — Pacific Northwest (WA, OR, ID, AK) is the primary focus, with select other regions considered

  • Commitment to inclusive leadership - Board-ready leaders bringing diverse perspectives and lived experiences

  • Availability to participate fully — candidates must be able to attend all program sessions (October through April) to the best of their ability, including a mix of in-person and virtual sessions

A Note on Fit

The BoardReady Collective is designed for leaders who are actively pursuing a path to the boardroom. Candidates who have no intent to re-enter executive or governance pathways, or who have already served on a public company board, are outside the scope of this program.

Selection Process

  • Nominations are open April 29-July 1.

Candidates must be nominated by someone who knows their leadership experience and board potential, such as:

    • A senior executive they work with

    • A seasoned board director

    • A mentor or advisor

    • A community or ecosystem leader familiar with their professional impact

Self‑nominations are not accepted at this stage.

  • Once nominated, candidates may be invited to submit a formal application.

Applications will be open July 18-August 12.

    This step allows nominees to:

    • Share their motivations for board service

    • Provide relevant professional background

    • Demonstrate readiness and commitment to the program

    • Highlight governance exposure, leadership scope, or unique lived experiences

Not all nominees are invited to apply; invitations are based on alignment with program criteria and cohort balancing.

  • Submitted applications are reviewed by the BRC team and program sponsors using criteria such as:

    • Leadership experience and board‑relevant skills

    • Connection to or presence within the Pacific Northwest

    • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive, ethical governance

    • Availability to participate fully in the program

    • Cohort diversity across function, industry, and lived perspective

Select applicants will then be offered a spot in the upcoming cohort. Applicants will be notified on or before September 8.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The program spans seven two-hour sessions. We ask that participants come in planning to attend all seven — life happens, and we get that — but the cohort experience is strongest when everyone shows up. Some sessions may include light pre-work.

  • From October to April, you'll move through the program alongside your cohort — seven months of learning, networking, and building the foundation for your board journey.

  • What makes BoardReady Collective distinct from other board preparation programs is that it goes beyond traditional “training” to focus on real-world readiness, access, and long-term success.

Many board training programs are primarily educational—they focus on governance fundamentals, roles and responsibilities, and onboarding concepts. While those are important, they often stop at knowledge transfer. Effective board development requires more than orientation; it calls for ongoing learning, mentorship, and practical application.

BoardReady Collective is designed to bridge that gap in a few key ways:

    • From theory to practice: Rather than focusing only on what boards do, the program emphasizes how to be an effective board member in real scenarios—through applied learning, discussion, and practical frameworks that build confidence and readiness.

    • Community and network: Instead of a one-time training, the Collective fosters an ongoing network of peers, alumni, and partners—recognizing that strong boards are built through relationships, shared learning, and continued engagement over time.

    • Expanding access and representation: A core part of BoardReady Collective’s mission is to broaden who has access to board service. The program intentionally supports leaders from diverse backgrounds and experiences, helping to build more inclusive, representative boards that better reflect and serve their communities.

In short, while many programs focus on educating prospective board members, BoardReady Collective is focused on preparing, connecting, and supporting a diverse pipeline of leaders to contribute meaningfully from day one—and over the long term.

  • There is no cost to participants. All program expenses are covered by BoardReady Collective.

  • After completing the program, participants continue to be actively supported as they take the next step in their board journey.

Program alumni leave with practical tools, a strong network, and a clear understanding of how to contribute meaningfully—whether through governance, fundraising, or strategic leadership.

Graduates are part of a broader movement to strengthen and diversify boards. As they step into new board roles, they help bring new perspectives, experiences, and leadership to the organizations they serve.

  • The BoardReady Collective is for leaders who have spent years building real expertise — and are now ready to bring it to the boardroom. We welcome candidates from across industries, backgrounds, and lived experiences, and we believe the boardroom is stronger when it reflects the full range of talent in our region.

Candidates are typically executive-level leaders — VP and above, founders, CEOs, GMs, and equivalents — who have had meaningful exposure to governance, whether through presenting to a board, supporting board processes, serving in an advisory capacity, or through nonprofit or private company board service. We also look for leaders with P&L or enterprise-level strategic responsibility and a genuine, active commitment to pursuing board service. The Pacific Northwest is our primary focus, though we consider strong candidates from select other regions as well.

  • Supporting participants in translating readiness into board service is a key part of the BoardReady Collective experience.

In addition to preparation and training, participants gain access to all of the benefits of being in the TalentVault. This may include introductions, visibility into board opportunities, and guidance on identifying the right fit.

While we cannot guarantee placement, we provide the tools, relationships, and support needed to help participants successfully navigate the process and secure a board role that aligns with their interests and goals.
